    Description

    This real photo postcard (RPPC) shows an ancient, outdoor Buddha statue. The Buddha is in the pose known as "Calling The Earth To Witness," also known as the "Earth Touching Buddha." This type of Buddha statue and pose is strongly associated with Buddha statues seen in Thailand.
    Based on my research, the Buddha statue shown on this postcard may be from the 700-year old temple known as Wat Umong in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Other images that I've seen from this temple show outdoor Buddhas-- similar in look and condition-- positioned similarly on stones and bricks near what looks like banyan trees with their distinctive roots. However, there are over 30,000 Buddhist temples in Thailand, so it's difficult, if not impossible, to be certain.
