VERY LARGE AMERICAN STERLING SILVER GRAVY BOAT
MADE BY GORHAM IN 1881
Pleased to offer this fine
example
of Gorham silver in the form of a very large gravy boat.  Displaying graceful curves, the
baluster
body tapers to a
sloping &
narrowing spout.  A large C shaped
bamboo
handle is well designed as the weight is
balanced
perfectly bet
ween
handle and spout. There is a one
inch
band of repousse work displaying flora & fauna. The boat is built up atop a sloped
oval
wide collar base,
displaying
a
basket weave
pattern.
The gravy boat
measures
9 1/2 inches long and stands 7 inches tall to top of handle.  The bowl is 4 inches wide.
Made from a thick
gauge
of silver the
boat
weighs 444 grams (15oz)  Clearly punched with
Markers
Mark of a lion passant an anchor and
Gothic
letter "G" for Gorham. Sterling, Pattern number of D95, and a date letter of "N" for 1881.  In
extremely
good condition, stands firm & level.
