Up for your consideration is a set of two reproduction WW2 CALIBER .30 M3 RIFLE GRENADE 20 round ammunition cartons with a FRANKFORD ARSENAL label.
Prior to WW2, the M1 grenade cartridge was the standard, originally developed for launching chemical rifle grenades. Then early in 1940 the Ordnance Committee recommended improvements in rifle grenade launching devices, in order to increase their range and accuracy. Frankford Arsenal was assigned the job of developing a more satisfactory grenade cartridge, leading to the M2 that was used for test purposes. However, the powder charge used in the M2 was found to cause too much recoil for shoulder firing of rifle grenades. A change to the powder mixture in mid-1941 led to the development of the M3 rifle grenade cartridge, which allowed the rifle grenades to be fired from the shoulder without ill effects. The M3 was standardized in September 1941, and continued in production throughout the war, first at Frankford Arsenal, then later at Lake City Ordnance Plant.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 2 unassembled cartons with dividers and labels. The Frankford Arsenal label has the unique WW2 double blue stripes, which identified the contents as rifle grenade cartridges, and a hand-stamped lot number matching the original. The cartons, dividers, and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the quantity before you click the "Buy It Now" button.
